This oak tree stands in New Iberia, Louisiana on the homestead of Frederick Larned Gates (1827-1897). He developed a cotton seed oil business, was a district judge in the 1870s and 1880s, and a Civil War veteran.

Hurricane Katrina (Aug 2005) heavily damaged the west bound I-10. The east bound section was turned into two-way traffic, while the other was being repaired.
