WC Handy Blues Pix!

The W.C. Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival is one of the largest free music festivals in the United States. It is a celebration of the life and legacy of William Christopher Handy, Father of the Blues. Handy spent nearly a decade in Henderson, Kentucky before moving on, eventually to be recognized as an accomplished composer of blues and spiritual music. The "Taste of Henderson Barbecue" highlights the opening day of the festival, where you can enjoy barbecue of all varieties sold by local teams. Corporate and private sponsors, along with many volunteers, keep this blues festival free and alive. Come enjoy the blues and barbecue every year during the month of June in Henderson, on the mighty Ohio River.

Here's the WC Handy crowd before the show.

James Cotton Band
James Cotton was born in Tunica, Mississippi. When he was just a boy, too young to go inside, he would open shows from the outside of local nightspots. He played with Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin' Wolf, and Muddy Waters. At age 15, he cut his first song with Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee. He started his own band in the late 1960s.
